Martin Awarded Diplomate Status

Montgomery, AL, November 26, 2001: Dr. J. Davis Martin, Ph.D. has been awarded status as a Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Counselors (DABFC). The ACFE recognizes experience and education of individuals engaged in forensic examinations and multi-disciplinary training in their field.

Diplomate status is reserved for those individuals who are able to meet the stringent requirements of the ACFE in the areas of knowledge, skill, training, and experience in the art and science of forensics. The ACFE is an international membership association, developed to bring together professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide a reliable, credible forum for ethical and professional standards for forensics. It is comprised of forensic professionals actively engaged in the fields of medicine, psychology and criminology, among others.

Dr. Martin served 2 terms as the President of the Alabama Therapeutic Foster Care Providers Association. The ATFCPA was a statewide association comprised of therapeutic foster care provider agencies that sought to promote more consistent and quality treatment services for Alabama’s therapeutic foster children.

Dr. Martin served as Executive Director of Al-Hajj, Inc., a non-profit child placing and adoption agency. She also serves as a psychological consultant and grant writer for Seraaj Family Homes, Inc., a therapeutic foster care provider agency.

Dr. Martin is a Clinically Certified Forensic Counselor from the American College of Certified Forensic Counselors Division of Psychology with specialties in Forensic Assessment and Evaluation and Child Custody Evaluation. She is also a member of the American Psychological Association, Division of Counseling Psychology.

Dr. Martin is also a former foster child. She and her husband, Tim, adopted a 17-year-old daughter, April, mother of infant son, Elijah.

In 2004, she and her husband, along with Beverly and Jeromy Owings, adoptive and foster parents, founded a non-profit agency, Kidz, Inc., a grassroots foundation designed to:

  • To provide grassroots aid to foster care children and children within the Department of Human Resources (DHR) system.
  • To fundraise for redistribution to children and families in need.
  • To provide a vehicle through which the general public can take part in improving the quality of life for Alabama's foster children.
  • To be instrumental in the creation and maintenance of the family unit such as in adoption and provision of support services to foster children and their families and other families in the DHR system in Alabama.
